BACH ETERNAL
In 18th century Leipzig, the most important musician in town was the cantor to the Thomaskirche (St Thomas Church). His name was Johann Sebastian Bach, and it was here that he wrote three hundred cantatas, sublime musical compositions using sacred text. The Thomaskirche is now the final resting place of Bach, and although its baroque architecture has disappeared, the heavenly choral music of one of the baroque period's greatest composers lives on in the church and around the world. In Bach Eternal, the Brandenburg and the celebrated Brandenburg Choir make a much anticipated return to the music of the composer who inspired their names. Featuring one of Bach's much loved cantatas, best known as Jesu Joy of Man's Desiring, this concert of divine voices, exhilarating organ and rousing period trumpets and horns will lift your heart and soothe your mind. Moving from the divine bliss of Bach to the royal splendour of Handel, Bach Eternal culminates in the triumphant sound of Handel's Coronation Anthems My heart is inditing and Let thy hand be strengthened.
