BEAUTIFUL MINDS
In 1770, a 14 year old Austrian boy sat in Rome's glorious Sistine Chapel listening to a choir perform Allegri's Miserere. Afterwards, he was able to write it out from memory after only a single hearing. The boy's name was Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart, and this musical prodigy had already written more symphonies than he had years. Decades later, a young German boy exhibited a similar extraordinary gift for music. His name was Felix Mendelssohn and, like Mozart, his musical abilities as a child bordered on the miraculous. Experience the stunning creations of these brilliant minds, as the Brandenburg performs Australia's favourite Mozart work, his Clarinet Concerto in A major. This gorgeous work, voted by thousands of ABC Classic FM listeners as their favourite Mozart, will be performed on basset clarinet (a clarinet of the period) by Brandenburg principal artist Craig Hill. Then discover the dramatic beauty of Mozart's Violin Concerto No. 3 in G major, written by the composer at age 19, with guest concertmaster and Brandenburg favourite Madeleine Easton. Finally, be swept away by the breathtaking grandeur of Mendelssohn's famous Hebrides Overture, better known as 'Fingal's Cave', in a thrilling tribute to classical music's beautiful minds.
