Christina Pluhar


Christina Pluhar After studying guitar in her home city of Graz, Austria, Christina Pluhar graduated in lute with Toyohiko Satoh at The Hague Conservatorium in The Netherlands. She was awarded the Diplom für Alte Musik (Early Music Diploma) in lute at the Schola Cantorum Basiliensis in Basel, Switzerland, with Hopkinson Smith, and studied the baroque harp with Mara Galassi in Milan, Italy.

Since 1992 Christina Pluhar has lived in Paris, where she has performed as a soloist and continuo player with early music ensembles such as La Fenice, Concerto Soave, Accordone, Elyma, Les Musiciens du Louvre, Ricercar, Akademia, La Grande Ecurie et la Chambre du Roy, Concerto Köln and Hesperion XXI, and with baroque orchestras directed by René Jacobs, Ivor Bolton and Alessandro di Marchi. She was assistant to the conductor Ivor Bolton at the Munich Staatsoper for the cycle of Monteverdi’s operas.

In 2000 Christina Pluhar founded her own ensemble, L’Arpeggiata, which has made a series of successful CD recordings. She has also been invited to appear as a guest conductor of baroque orchestras such as the European Baroque Orchestra and Divino Sospiro.

Since 1993 she has given master classes at Graz University, and has taught baroque harp at the Hague Conservatorium since 1999. Her repertoire includes solo and continuo works from the sixteenth to the eighteenth centuries for renaissance lute, baroque guitar, archlute, theorbo and baroque harp.
