Brandenburg Friends

"One of the reasons for the success of the Australian Brandenburg Orchestra is that it challenges the popular though misguided image of classical music being the preserve of the exclusive clique. Instead, you're made to feel part of a close-knit but welcoming circle of friends." The Australian

Who are the Friends?

Today – as we celebrate the Australian Brandenburg Orchestra's 21st year – it is exciting to think about how far the Brandenburg Friends has come since it was started in 1991 by four young professionals, as a social group to support the then embryonic Orchestra.

Comprising over 300 people of all ages and from all walks of life, the Brandenburg Friends is a vehicle for members to develop a closer connection to the Orchestra and its many talented musicians. The Friends also assist the Orchestra with fund-raising for specialised instruments and projects.

Looking forward, we plan to have at least four events each year, which combine a social occasion with wonderful hospitality, outstanding music and a focus on the very talented Brandenburg musicians.

The Friends' Contributions to the Orchestra

  • A magnificent baroque chamber organ; two classical oboes; a new set of custom-made music folders; baroque bows for violin, viola and lirone; a set of baroque timpani; a state-of-the-art case for transporting the Orchestra's double bass; and most recently, two period horns.
  • Master classes for members of the Orchestra given by international baroque cellist Hidemi Suzuki.

Benefits of being a Friend

  • Invitations to attend private concerts and to meet the musicians.
  • Invitation to our Gala Dinner.
  • The opportunity to attend Orchestra rehearsals.
  • Discounts on A-Reserve bookings (non-subscription tickets) for concerts at the City Recital Hall Angel Place, Sydney, and Melbourne Recital Centre.

Joining is easy

An annual membership fee of $60 (single) or $100 (per couple) provides the Friends with funding to manage the organisation.
