DAZZLING VIRTUOSO
In the early 19th century, one of the most influential families of the Hungarian nobility appointed 26 year old Johann Hummel to succeed their Kappelmeister (music director), the great Joseph Haydn. On New Year's Day in 1804, the young Hummel's employment at the court was marked with a performance of his Trumpet Concerto in E major. This magnificent work had been written for the same dazzling virtuoso who had been the inspiration for Haydn's own brilliant trumpet concerto. Dazzling Virtuoso opens with Haydn's sweeping Surprise symphony, written during the composer's prolific 'London' period, and featuring the Brandenburg on period instruments. Then discover two shining examples of classical trumpet repertoire with the Australian debut of modern day virtuoso Gabriele Cassone. Attracted to the trumpet for its sense of happiness and celebration, Cassone brings bravura and pinpoint precision to these jubilant works, performing on a keyed trumpet, an instrument of the classical period. Don't miss this unique opportunity to hear these wonderfully joyous works as their composers intended.
