Philippe Jaroussky
received his diploma as
a violinist from the Early
Music Faculty of the Paris
Conservatoire but since
1996 he has studied
singing with Nicole Fallien.
In 1999 he sang In
Scarlatti’s oratorio Sedecia
at the Royaumont and
Ambronay Festivals with
Seminario Musicale and
Gerard Lesne (CD Virgin
Classics). With the Grande
Ecurie et la Chambre du
Roy directed by Jean-
Claude Malgoire he took
part in Monteverdi’s trilogy
(Orfeo, Il Ritorno di Ulisse
and Incoronazione di
Poppea) and in 2001
sang the role of Arbace
in Vivaldi’s Catone in Utica
as well as Vivaldi’s Nisi
Dominus and Pergolesi’s
Stabat Mater. In 2003 he
appeared as Nero at the
Théâtre des Champs
Elysées in Handel’s
Agrippina.
He frequently collaborates
with Jean Tubéry at La
Fenice and has recorded
La Morte Delusa by
Bassani and A Concert
for Mazarin (Virgin Classics)
with him. With Ensemble
Matheus, directed by Jean-
Christophe Spinosi, he has
recorded La Verità in
cimento (Opus 111) and
he has also recorded the
role of Ruggiero in Orlando
furioso from a performance
at the Théâtre des Champs
Elysées for Naïve.
With Gabriel Garrido’s
group Elyma he has
recorded Monteverdi’s
Incoronazione di Poppea
and Selva Morale.
Currently presenting a
series of recitals with his
own ensemble Artaserse,
Philippe Jaroussky is also
singing Telemaco in Ulisse
with Rene Jacobs at the
Berlin Staatsoper and
Eustazio in Rinaldo at the
Vlaamse Opera conducted
by Andrea Spering.
Philippe Jaroussky’s
first recital disc for the
Ambroisie label with
works by Benedetto Ferrari
received outstanding critical
acclaim, winning Diapason
Découverte, Recommandé
de Repertoire, Timbre
de Platine d’Opéra
International, Prix de
l’Academie Charles Cros,
Grand Prix du Syndicat de
la Critique, etc. His first
disc as an exclusive Virgin
Classics artist consisted of
Cantatas for alto and
ensemble by Vivaldi and
he has recently released
a second disc for them
entitled Beata Vergine.
Philippe Jaroussky recently
gave his first major Paris
recital at the Théâtre des
Champs Elysées with
Concert d’Astrée in a
programme devoted to the
castrato Carestini.
His forthcoming projects
include Gluck’s Orfeo ed
Euridice directed by Jean-
Claude Malgoire, Tolemeo
in Handel’s Julius Caesar,
San Alessio in Landi’s San
Alessio directed by William
Christie and the Spirit in
Purcell’s Dido and Aeneas
at the Théâtre du Châtelet
directed by Marc Minkowski.
