In memory of Lloyd Martin
The Australian Brandenburg Orchestra’s musicians are Australia’s finest and most highly skilled baroque players. In the lead up to the Orchestra’s 30th Anniversary in 2019, the Brandenburg has recently established a program to provide support for our Orchestral Chairs.
Representing a significant investment towards the Brandenburg’s artistic future, supporting a musician’s Chair provides a direct contribution to the salary, travel and accommodation costs associated with each Chair. The Orchestra’s longevity relies on being able to continue to attract the most talented musicians from across Australia, and to provide them with opportunities to thrive.
This vital initiative was recently launched at an event at the home of one of our great supporters, Carina Martin. The Martin Family have been truly committed to the Brandenburg’s development over the past 26 years. As General Manager of the Sydney Opera House, Lloyd Martin facilitated the Brandenburg’s first performance in 1991. To honour this accomplishment, we were delighted to invite the Martin family to establish the inaugural Orchestral Chair in Lloyd’s memory to support the Theorbo/ Baroque Guitar Chair, currently held by Tommie Andersson, one of Brandenburg’s founding musicians.
The inaugural Orchestral Chair, in memory of Lloyd Martin AM, is supported by The Alexandra and Lloyd Martin Family Foundation and friends.
Lloyd Martin was a long-time and ardent supporter of the Brandenburg’s vision and we are delighted to have created a legacy in his name. Thank you to everyone who has supported the establishment of this Chair.
